Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Columbia SC 1253 AM EDT Tue Sep 9 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will dominate the weather pattern through the week with dry conditions and a slow warming trend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Key Message(s):

- Continued dry weather with temps a bit below normal.

High pressure sprawling from New England into the Carolinas will dominate the weather today and tonight. Low level winds from the northeast will continue modest cool advection with temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees below normal. There will be periods of high clouds as an upper level disturbance turns jet level winds to the south and brings in high level moisture, but no concerns of any precipitation this far inland due to the dry low levels.

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... Key message(s):

- High pressure maintains a dry pattern with gradually warming temperatures.

Upper trough axis to our west at the start of the period moves east and then southeast on Friday. An upper low may develop over North Carolina Friday night as the trough sharpens. At the surface, the pattern changes little with strong high pressure to our north maintaining a dry air mass. A reinforcing shot of dry air drops PWATs into the 0.5 to 0.75 inch range Wednesday morning, gradually recovering through the remainder of the period. With this in mind, dewpoints were lowered on Wednesday and Wednesday night. Guidance continues to show a gradual warming trend despite the aforementioned upper pattern with near normal daytime temperatures Thursday and Friday, likely due to the abundant sunshine expected combined with the September sun angle.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Key message(s):

- Slightly cooler on Saturday followed by another warming trend.

- A dry forecast continues through the extended.

Upper trough and possible upper low will be positioned along the east coast on Saturday, replaced by ridging on Sunday and especially Monday. High pressure at the surface maintains dry conditions through the period with rain not expected. Temperatures on Saturday could be slightly cooler than Friday, followed by a warming trend early next week.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...

VFR conditions for the next 24 hours (and beyond). There will be some periodic mid to high level ceilings, but nothing low enough to cause impacts at the terminals. There will be periods of wind gusts again today, but they should mainly be 20 knots or less.

EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...Mainly VFR conditions expected.

&&

.CAE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... SC...None. GA...None.
