.NEAR TERM... (Tonight) Issued at 128 PM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025
The forecast remains on track this afternoon, with no significant changes needed. Current temperatures range in the mid 70s to around 80 degrees so far this afternoon. With mostly clear skies, highs are on track to reach the lower to mid 80s for most locations. Although, the higher terrain of northeastern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee will be a touch cooler, in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
Previous Discussion:
Mostly clear conditions this morning, with high pressure situated to the north and east of the region. Expect more of the same as ample sunshine should help to warm temperatures into the low to mid 80s once again in this dry air mass. Any Cu field will dissipate after sunset, with mostly clear/dry conditions creating a favorable setup for radiational cooling. Overnight lows will again drop into the mid 50s to lower 60s.

.SHORT TERM... (Wednesday through Friday) Issued at 821 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025
A broad mid/upper ridge axis will amplify over the Southern Plains and gradually build eastward into the lower Mississippi Valley and Mid South (and eventually Tennessee Valley). mid to late week. This will result in a gradual warming trend each day as heat will gradually build in by late week. With ample sunshine each day, highs will return to the mid/upper 80s on Wednesday and eventually the low to mid 90s by Thursday and Friday.

.LONG TERM... (Friday night through Tuesday) Issued at 852 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025
From Friday through Sunday, mid level troughing will exit off the NE coast allowing mid level high pressure to push east into the TN Valley. By Monday high pressure will be aligned at the surface and aloft. Locally this will bring more of the same. Subsidence will promote clear skies, surface high pressure will keep high dew points refined to the coast, and our warming trend will continue. Temps will be in the low 90s at the start of the period warming to the mid 90s by the start of the work week. Fortunately NE surface flow will keep our dew points comfortably in the high 50s to low 60s limiting our humidity despite the heat.
