.DISCUSSION... Issued at 210 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025
07z upper air analysis shows a nearly stationary cutoff low centered in southern California with Pacific moisture streaming through the desert southwest and southern plains which is leading to mainly some high clouds in eastern Colorado and southwest Kansas. The main upper level winds are located in Canada with a large ridge over the central and northern plains. At the surface a stationary boundary is located along the highway 50 corridor with an anticyclone centered in northeast Nebraska.
Overall for today we should see fairly quiet conditions. An upper level shortwave ejecting from the upper low will ride from southwest to northeast in the Colorado Rockies. THis will form and deepen a surface low in northeast Colorado and lead to winds increasing this afternoon especially along and west of highway 283. Wind gusts at times could be 20-30 mph. With the southerly wind and 850 mb temps warming into the 20-23 (C) range along with more sun than clouds we should see temperatures warm into the middle to upper 80s. Any threat of rain and storms should stay in eastern Colorado.
Monday we should have similar conditions. The upper low in the southwest evolves into a longwave trough with a northeast trajectory into the 4 corners region by afternoon. This should move the core of the warmer air northward and with thicker mid level clouds highs will be a few degrees cooler in the lower 80s.
Long range ensembles keep us in a quiet weather pattern with little to no rain forecast through day 7 in any of the 50 member Euro or 30 member GFS. Upper level winds stay generally zonal with an upper high over the Great Lakes and the polar jet staying well north into Canada keeping the ridge over the center CONUS. With no upcoming troughs or cold fronts we should see high temperatures stay generally in the 80s through the next 7 days.
