.DISCUSSION... Issued at 341 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

Today...

Clear skies and light winds have let temperatures sink into the upper 40s to mid 50s this morning. Aloft, ridging is building over the Midwest with an upper level low centered over the CA/NV/AZ border, placing the area under southwesterly flow aloft. A seasonally warm but pleasant day is expected across the area today in this southwesterly flow aloft. Highs have been on the higher side of model guidance, so have blended in some NBM75th percentile. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 80s, but wouldn`t be surprised if some areas south of I-80 sneak into the 90s. Southerly winds will be strongest west of Highway 281, gusting 15-20mph. Lows tonight will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Monday and Tuesday...

Southwesterly flow aloft continues on Monday and Tuesday. Plenty of sunshine and above normal temperatures are expected with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Given the similar pattern to today/previous days, would not be surprised if temperatures continue to trend higher as we get closer. Breezy winds are possible during the afternoon hours, gusting 20-25mph, but could be higher if greater mixing can be achieved.

Wednesday Onwards...

In what starts to sound like a broken record, southwesterly flow aloft persists through the end of the work/school week. Above normal temperatures (highs 80s lows upper 50s/low 60s), mostly sunny skies and breezy afternoon winds are expected each day. The forecast remains dry through the end of the forecast period, through a passing disturbance on Wednesday could bring a low chance for rain that`s not currently depicted by the NBM. Differences in model guidance increase by the end of next week. Still, models remain in enough agreement to show a stronger trough arriving sometime next weekend, which looks to be the next chance for more widespread rain for the area. Another thing to keep an eye on as we move into October will be drying fuels. Being at the end of the growing season, combined with this stretch of warm and dry weather will allow fuels to steadily dry out, which may result in fire weather concerns returning as we move into October. For now, fuels remain green and fire weather concerns are low.
