.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 157 AM CDT Tue Sep 30 2025
At 3AM, high pressure is centered along the Iowa and Illinois border. Temperatures range from 54 degrees at Monticello to 64 degrees at Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.
Rex Blocking is forecast to slowly shift eastward into the Middle Ohio River Valley through Thursday night. This will cause surface high pressure to slowly shift eastward and slowly turn the winds from easterly today to southerly on Thursday. High clouds are forecast to slowly increase today through Wednesday wih a weak trough to our west. High temperatures today and Thursday are forecast to be in the mid to upper 80s. Slightly lower temperatures are forecast on Wednesday as cloud cover thickens and the trough to our west lifts north of the area. High temperatures are forecast to be in the lower to mid 80s.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 157 AM CDT Tue Sep 30 2025
The 500 MB flow is forecast to become more zonal this weekend into next week. A 500 MB trough is forecast to dig into the Western US this weekend before lifting into the Plains early next week. This is resulting in the current POPs Sunday night into Monday morning. Synoptic models do not show much precipitation during this period but a couple of ensemble members do show some precipitation. Thus confidence remains low on both the timing and if any precipitation does occur with this system.
Temperatures remain well above normal through the weekend with the potentially the warmest temperatures on Friday and Saturday. Current high temperatures on Friday are forecast to be in upper 80s to lower 90s. These temperatures are near record high temperatures for October 3rd.
