.SYNOPSIS...
Some moisture being pulled north by Tropical Storm Imelda will push
into the area later today, and will bring chances for light
rain showers to these areas through Tuesday. High pressure
overtakes the area by early Wednesday morning leading to an
extended dry period into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1030 AM EDT Monday...
No major changes were made to the forecast this morning. Some
light showers are starting to work their way into the VA/NC
Piedmont this morning. These showers will continue to slowly
expand westward into the Blue Ridge and NRV towards the late
evening hours.

1. Light rain showers arrive this afternoon and evening.
2. Cooler and cloudy with northeast flow.
Tropical Storm Imelda will continue to slowly move north out of
the Bahamas and then begin to move east out into the Atlantic.
Some moisture will be drawn northward from the tropics today,
mainly in the form of just some scattered showers this afternoon
and evening. Rain coverage/intensity will gradually diminish
tonight with mainly areas of drizzle and low clouds overnight
tonight. At the moment, rainfall amounts now look to only be
around 0.25" or less with the upper range being across Southside
Virginia and north central North Carolina.
Temperatures will feel a bit cooler today with a northeast
breeze and cloud cover keeping warming to minimum.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
As of 1250 AM EDT Monday...
Key Messages:
1) Rain showers could linger through Tuesday but should diminish by
Tuesday night to provide dry weather afterward.
2) Temperatures will trend lower on Thursday due to a cool northeast
flow as high pressure wedges against the Blue Ridge.
Moisture being advected northward from Tropical Storm Imelda may
linger into Tuesday, but it will dwindle due to a drier northeast
flow as high pressure from Canada builds southward. As Imelda turns
eastward late Tuesday, the Canadian high should firmly wedge itself
against the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge. Conditions will turn
drier for the remainder of this forecast period. Temperatures should
also dip lower for Wednesday night into Thursday with lows mainly in
the 40s and highs generally in the 60s.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 1250 AM EDT Monday...
Key Messages:
1) Dry weather will persist through Friday and the upcoming weekend.
2) Temperatures should moderate a little towards the weekend.
High pressure should remain wedged against the eastern slopes of the
Blue Ridge through Friday. As the high slowly weakens and drifts
offshore by the upcoming weekend, the cooler northeast flow should
abate and allow some moderation in the temperatures. Dry weather
will continue throughout the weekend with more locations having
highs in the 70s. Several model solutions suggest that this stretch
of dry weather might last notably longer into the following week.

.AVIATION /15Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 640 AM EDT Monday...
Mostly VFR across the region. However, high level clouds
associated with Tropical Storm Imelda have already begun pushing
into the area, and will expect this trend to continue through
the morning. MVFR ceilings or lower will reach KDAN first and
then spread to KLYH, KROA, and KBCB by late afternoon and into
the evening, coinciding with the onset of light rain for those
terminals. Rain may reach as far west as KBLF, but confidence is
lower.
Patchy dense fog this morning as well, but overall rather
shallow given ongoing cirrus deck. Should diminish just after
sunrise.
Low clouds and drizzle will result in widespread sub-VFR
conditions tonight. In some instances across the mountains, may
have cigs less than 1000ft combined with low vsby.
Winds will remain generally from the northeast, between 5 to 10
knots, and may gust up to 15 knots by the afternoon. Lighter
again tonight.
EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...
Rain showers may continue on Tuesday as easterly flow brings
moisture back into the area from the Atlantic Coast, with the
potential for gusty winds Tuesday into Wednesday. Expecting
VFR conditions to return after rain ends Tuesday night, for
Wednesday through Saturday, except for patchy morning fog.
