Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 550 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

...New AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Dry and warm weather will prevail through the rest of the weekend into next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 101 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Very quiet in the short term portion of the forecast. Surface high pressure has shifted east of the area and allowing light south and southeast winds to return. Surface dewpoints have been substantially higher than the models have forecasted, likely in part due to the evapotranspiration of moisture out of the soil and vegetation. Have boosted Tds some for the next 24 hours to account for this. Otherwise, temperatures remain near normal with lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s and highs in the upper 80s for Sunday.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Saturday) Issued at 1257 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Upper level ridging is currently in place across our area, with a 575mb low over southern California. This low, while weakening will move to the northeast over the next few days, weakening the ridge in our area by Monday. A weak upper level shortwave will move into Texas by Monday. No precipitation is expected with the trough as it moves through due to dry low levels, and the relative weakness of the trough itself, but we will likely see an increase in mid and upper level clouds as the feature moves by Monday and Tuesday. This low will slowly make its way eastward into the southeastern U. S. by late next week, with more ridging moving in from the west. Highs will remain warmer than normal, averaging in the mid 80s to lower 90s range this week, with lows generally in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

.AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 539 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Satellite images and surface observations indicate mostly high clouds moving across the southern and eastern portions of the CWA early this evening. Expect VFR conditions to prevail across west central Texas tonight through Sunday afternoon as a 500mb ridge across the south central United States continues to provide subsidence across the area. Winds will be light and variable tonight through Sunday morning.
