Harrisburg PA established a record for the date with 2.11 inches of rain. A cold front in the central U.S. brought freezing temperatures to parts of Montana and Wyoming.

The community most likely derives its name from Robert Hughes, a local pioneer who was kidnapped by Native Americans.
