The Tennessee Valley sits underneath an upper level trough which
is in between high pressure over the southern Plains and two
tropical cyclones over the Atlantic. As a result, a tranquil day
is forecast with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs in the mid
to upper 80s. Heading into tonight, clear skies and calm winds
will allow for ideal radiational cooling. Temperatures are
forecast to drop down into the upper 50s to lower 60s. While
widespread fog is not anticipated given a relatively dry airmass,
based on what occurred this morning, there is a low chance of some
patchy fog in sheltered valleys across northeast AL and southern
middle TN.

(Tuesday through Thursday)

As the tropical systems push further off to the east, the upper
level ridge to our west slowly moves into the forecast area. A
weak sfc trough will drop south across the Tennessee Valley on
Tuesday and while it is lacking moisture, there is a very low
chance (~10%) of a shower or thunderstorm in the terrain across
far northeast AL. Otherwise, the dry pattern will continue through
the middle of the week. Behind this aformentioned trough, a
slightly cooler and drier airmass advects into the region. This
will bring afternoon highs from the mid to upper 80s on Tuesday
and Wednesday down into the upper 70s to mid 80s on Thursday.
Dewpoints will also drop down into the lower 50s Thursday making
it finally feel like Fall again.

(Thursday Night through Sunday)

There will be little change in the overall synoptic pattern as we
head through the long term period. Some good news for those
hoping for cooler temperatures is that with high pressure settling
over the Northeast as we head toward the end of the week, cooler
and drier air will be pushed southwest into the local area. Highs
will drop into the upper 70s in some locations, especially in the
higher terrain areas, with temps in the lower 80s elsewhere. With
the drier airmass in place, we should see abundant sunshine for
the later half of the week and pretty ideal weather for any
outdoor plans. Overnight lows will fall as well, approaching the
lower 50s Thursday and Friday nights. It does not look like we
will hit the 40 degree mark quite yet, but it will feel noticeably
cooler later this week!
