Surface high pressure extended from Hudson Bay into the Upper
Midwest, Northern Plains and Northern Rockies early this
afternoon. Most of the lingering low stratus had lifted along
the fog from earlier this morning leaving mainly fair weather
cumulus across the region. Skies will likely clear this evening
with the loss of daytime heating. However, low level moisture
remains in place and will again lead to the development of low
stratus and fog overnight. While it is not expected to be as
widespread as the past few nights, it will be dense in spots,
especially from the Twin Ports to the Iron Range and Brainerd
Lakes regions. Depending on how dense and widespread it is,
Dense Fog Advisories may be needed.
High pressure will then control the remainder of the forecast
period bringing dry conditions along with generally above normal
temperatures. There will be a few weak cold frontal passages
during this period with the strongest being Friday night into
Saturday. While this looks to be a mainly dry passage, aside
from some low pops along the International Border, there will be
some cooler air that arrives behind this front for Saturday that
will bring closer to normal highs in the 60s and lower 70s.
Temperatures then warm back into the 70s for the remainder of
the weekend and into early next week.

Fog has been slow to lift this morning but VFR VSBYs have
returned with a few pockets of IFR stratus lingering early this
afternoon. VFR conditions will prevail this afternoon and into
this evening before fog returns tonight. IFR or lower CIGs and
VSBYs are expected once again with conditions improving to MVFR
or better by mid to late morning Wednesday. High pressure
overhead will keep winds light and variable at 4 knots or less.

High pressure will bring light winds at 10 knots or less to
western Lake Superior tonight through Wednesday night. Winds
will then turn southwesterly on Thursday with gusts to 15 knots
from Gran Marais to Grand Portage. Main concern for the next
few days will be another round of fog that will likely develop
tonight and linger into Wednesday. This round is not expected to
be as widespread and will likely dissipate quicker than this
morning`s round.
