1900 - The greatest weather disaster in U.S. records occurred when a hurricane struck Galveston TX. A tide fifteen feet high washed over the island demolishing or carrying away buildings, and drowning more than 6000 persons. The hurricane destroyed more than 3600 houses, and total damage was more than thirty million dollars. Winds to 120 mph, and a twenty foot storm surge accompanied the hurricane. Following the storm, the surf was three hundred feet inland from the former water line. The hurricane claimed another 1200 lives outside of the Galveston area.

Willowcreek is an unincorporated village in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. It is approximately 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Vale along U.S. Route 26. The village has a combined store and café, and the region's elementary school. Willowcreek is located at 44°06′53″N 117°21′52″W. Today Willowcreek has a Vale mailing address, although the nearest post office is in nearby Jamieson.
The village took its name from Willow Creek, a prominent stream of the county that is a tributary of the Malheur River. The Union Pacific (UP) station here was named Lancaster (or Lancaster Station) after Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The station was on UP's Brogan Line, which was removed by UP. It was named by Brogan namesake D. M. Brogan, who was born in the Pennsylvania city. Willowcreek post office had been established in 1937 but was discontinued by 1980.
