Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 139 PM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure slides southeast across New England tonight into Saturday. A weak cold front approaches Saturday night and crosses Sunday bringing the chance for scattered showers. High pressure builds back in Monday and will keep the area dry through at least the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Quiet weather continues for the rest of the day with plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and temps in the 70s. Looking upstream, latest visible satellite imagery shows quite a bit of high clouds associated with an upper disturbance, and these clouds may eventually level off cooling across the north tonight, but otherwise conditions will be favorable for radiational cooling. Lows will be again primarily in the 40s but a few northern valleys may still be able to reach the mid to upper 30s with patchy frost possible. Valley fog is again likely in some areas.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... Saturday will be another day featuring temperatures in the 70s and comfortable humidity levels. There will be more cloud cover though as high pressure continues to shift to the east as a shortwave trough quickly crosses the region. Moisture depth and MUCAPE may be just enough for a few showers to develop in the afternoon, but most will not see any rainfall.

Mostly dry weather persists through Saturday night with temperatures not as cool thanks to light low-level southerly flow. Lows will be in the 40s and 50s with patchy fog possible.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... A northern stream wave crossing Canada will send a weak cold front through the area Sunday. This front will bring the chances for scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm while widespread wetting rainfall is unlikely. High pressure builds in Monday and will dominate the pattern through the middle of next week. This will allow for warm sunny days and cool nights. An upper low may migrate up the East Coast during the second half of next week while the majority of ensemble members keep the area precipitation free through Friday.

The best chance for some rainfall during the period will occur Sunday as a weak front crosses the area. Available CAM guidance suggest the front will bring widely scattered showers at best with much of the area likely to miss out on any measurable rainfall. Highs on Sunday will range from the upper 60s north to upper 70s south.

High pressure builds in behind the front Monday and will settle over New England through the middle of the week. This will allow for moderating day time temperatures with highs creeping into the 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. Conditions will also be favorable for radiational cooling while the airmass does not look quite as cool as the one that allowed for patchy frost across the north the past two nights. Lows will generally be in the 40s with upper 30s across northern valleys. An upper low may migrate up the East Coast late next week while there is a limited signal that this system will bring appreciable rainfall.

&&

.AVIATION /17Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... Short Term...Mostly VFR through Saturday night. Valley fog will likely occur again tonight at HIE and LEB, possibly at CON and AUG as well. A few showers may develop Saturday afternoon, but chances are too low for TAF inclusion at this time. Patchy fog is possible Saturday night and may bring restrictions beyond LEB and HIE.

Long Term...Mainly VFR through the period. Conditions will be favorable for valley fog most nights that will likely bring IFR/LIFR to KLEB and KHIE.

&&

.MARINE... Short Term...Winds and seas are expected to stay below SCA levels through Saturday night. High pressure over the waters will slide to the east through tonight and Saturday as weak low pressure approaches resulting in a prevailing southerly wind flow.

Long Term...Winds and seas stay below SCA thresholds through the period. A weak front crosses the waters Sunday bringing a winds shift out of the north Sunday night. High pressure then builds over the waters for light onshore winds during the day time.
